A stoop is a small structure with structural rules: consistent riser heights, proper tread depth, footings below frost line, and positive pitch so water drains off instead of freezing on. We rebuild crumbling stoops from the footing up and build new ones that meet code the first time.
Materials run from smooth-finished and rock-faced concrete to brick, bluestone treads, and stone-veneered risers. We tie new steps into existing walkways and landings so the whole entry reads as one piece, and we can add railings-ready anchors where code calls for them.
Spalling, tilting, and hollow-sounding steps usually mean water got in and freeze-thaw did the rest. Sometimes that's a resurfacing job; often it's a rebuild. We'll tell you which one it actually is — not just the bigger ticket.

Often yes — most municipalities treat stoops and steps as structures with footing and riser requirements. We've worked with local building departments to open and close permits and will handle the requirements for your town.
Can you repair steps, or do they need a full rebuild?
If the core is sound, resurfacing or re-facing can work. If steps are tilting, hollow, or spalling deeply, a rebuild is the honest answer — patches over a failed core don't last. We'll tell you which situation you have at the site visit.
How long does a stoop rebuild take?
Typically several days from demo to finished steps, plus cure time before heavy use. Weather and footing depth affect the schedule, and we'll put dates in the written quote.
